If you’re in Galway on a Saturday, you simply have to visit the Market – down a lane beside St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church – alive with vendors and visitors, and you can buy the most gorgeous seafood, bagels, flowers, organic fruit and veg, art and crafts and some of the yummiest take away food available anywhere.

And if you’re not here on a Saturday, that doesn’t mean you’ve missed out on some of the best shopping around.  Galway is a fantastic city to come and play in. Whether you’re a sophisticated teen, a wee child or a real grown-up there’s something for everyone to do.

The main shopping area, around Shop Street, Quay Street, High Street has a myriad of shops to explore, and the little lanes off these streets are a haven for shoppers.

And then there’s the food! What a selection of restaurants, cafés and bars Galway has – everything from fine dining to quick takeaway pizzas, and some of the finest fish and chips in the country!  Have a look at our recommendations here.

Or you could visit some of Galway’s fine beaches, just head out towards Salthill, and keep going. In your car, or if you fancy the wind in your hair, hire a bike from Mountain Trail Bikes on Middle Street, and book a tour and head off for the day, en famille.  On the way, visit Salthill, and if it’s a bit chilly in the Atlantic in Galway Bay, you could always drop into Leisureland for a swim.
