Location

Galway is a city in the west of Ireland, and is the gateway to Connemara. Situated approximately 130 miles West of Dublin on Galway Bay, the city boasts great restaurants, bars, hotels, and an enviable cultural life. It is often referred to as the Cultural Heart of Ireland.

Air

Direct to Galway Airport from London, Manchester and Edinburgh with Aer Arann.

Galway Airport is located 6km (4 miles) from the city centre.

Shannon International Airport is located 90km (55 miles) from Galway and has routes servicing numerous destinations in Europe, the US and Canada. Bus Services are available from Shannon.

Ireland West Airport Knock, 85km (53 miles), from Galway also has direct connections to a number of UK destinations and Dublin.

Dublin Airport has routes servicing numerous worldwide destinations and is well served by coach services from the Airport, with GoBus providing a non-stop service. There are 14 departures daily with a journey time of approximately 3 hours.

From the North (Sligo & Donegal) the N17
From the East (Athlone & Dublin) the M6
From the South (Shannon, Limerick and Cork) the N18

Rail

Iarnrod Eireann operates daily return services to Galway from Dublin (Heuston Station) (approximately 2.5 hrs travel time).

Galway’s train station is located in the city centre adjacent to Eyre Square.

Bus

Go Bus operates 14 daily daily services to/from Galway, serving Dublin City and Airport. It is a Non-Stop service with Free Wi-Fi and Onboard Toilet Facilities.

The national coach service, and several private bus operators, including Citylink operate to Galway from Dublin and other cities.

Car Rental

Most major car hire companies operate from airports and seaports in Ireland.

Boat

The closest ferry ports include Dublin (3 hours travel time by road) serviced by Irish Ferries and Stena Line from Holyhead, and Norfolk Line from Liverpool (Birkenhead).

Dun Laoghaire port, to the south of Dublin City, is serviced by Stena Line from Holyhead.

Rosslare (5 hours) is serviced by Stena Line from Fishguard and by Irish Ferries from Pembroke.
