2020 Festival Delegate Recordings

This year’s Baboró Delegate Programme looked a little different. Due to the global pandemic we presented our talks and presentations online to national and international audiences. Participants found the discussions insightful and informative and we have collected the recordings below for you to enjoy for the first time or watch again.

Making Regional Connections

Pathways to Production Artists meet Presenters

Recorded 12/10/20

This year Baboró asked six of its Pathways to Production artists to meet with presenters from venues and festivals in Ireland and the UK. We recognised that international touring models have been suspended and it’s time to look closer to home to both develop and present work. This was an opportunity for these artists to meet presenters, expand their networks and share their ideas of how they would like to make work in the future. We aimed for these conversations to spawn compelling connections, pique some interest in future collaborations or even engender future presentation opportunities in our region.

Chaired by Marc MacLochlainn, Artistic Director of Branar Téatar do Pháistí.

Diversifying Performance for Young Audiences

Recorded 14/10/20

Ireland’s population has changed dramatically in just one generation. Children attend school with peers from a myriad of backgrounds, ethnic groups and cultures. However, not all children are seeing themselves reflected on Irish stages, particularly in work made for young people. How do we address this issue in Ireland? Are there good examples to look to in other countries?

Chaired by Dr. Charlotte McIvor, Lecturer in Drama and Theatre Studies and Deputy Head of the School of English and Creative Arts at the National University of Ireland. Panelists: Maureen Kennelly (Director Arts Council of Ireland), Boomer Stacey ( Founding Executive Director of IPAY), Yvette Hardie (Director of ASITEJ), Trina Haldar (Associate Director of The Spark Arts for Children) and Cliodhna Noonan (Founder and Director of Acting Up! Arts).

In partnership with Theatre for Young Audiences Ireland (TYAI).

IPAY Watch Party at Baboró

Recorded 16/10/20

Baboró is delighted to continue its partnership with International Performing Arts for Youth (IPAY), the largest annual showcase and marketplace for work for young audiences in North America. This collaboration with IPAY, Baboró and Theatre for Young Audiences Ireland led to a large Irish delegation attending IPAY in Philadelphia in January 2020, supported by Culture Ireland. Instead of the usual gathering of delegates from across the world in Philly in January 2021, IPAY has moved online.

You can look back on our IPAY watch party as part of Showcase in Place 2021. Irish artists Paul Curley and Chantal McCormack (Fidget Feet) were selected to shine a spotlight on their work for young audiences as part of the Showcase.
