Build A World

Join Dave Rudden, author of the award-winning 'Knights of the Borrowed Dark' fantasy trilogy and 'Dr Who: Twelve Angels Weeping', for a fun, fast-paced session where he and the audience build a fantasy world from scratch.

From perilous landscapes to powerful heroes, this workshop will show you exactly how to go about creating your very own world for your stories. Followed by a Q & A where budding writers can ask whatever they'd like - the more difficult the better!

Dave Rudden

Dave Rudden’s first novel, 'Knights of the Borrowed Dark', was the 2016 Children’s Book of the Year at the Irish Book Awards and the UNESCO Dublin City of Literature Citywide Read in 2017. He has been shortlisted for the Hennessey New Writing Prize, the Northern Irish Book Award and was the 2011 winner of the Fantasy Book Review Short Story Prize. His first 'Doctor Who anthology', 'Twelve Angels Weeping', was released in October 2018.

In the last two years, he has performed in over five hundred schools, libraries, workshops, conferences, literary death matches and one pumpkin festival. Dave enjoys cats, adventure and being cruel to fictional children.

Accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible

Parking: There is limited on-street paid parking around the Town Hall Theatre. There is a large Pay and Display car park at the Galway Cathedral at €5 per day and there is also Pay and Display (street parking) at the Black Box Theatre at €2 per hour. Chargeable hours are 08.30-18.30 Monday to Saturday and 13.00-18.30 Sunday. Both are a five minute walk to the Town Hall Theatre.

Public Bus: Galway city bus route 407 stops at Woodquay, which is a 2 minute walk to the Town Hall Theatre.

Walking: The Black Gate Cultural Centre is a 5 minute walk from Eyre Square and a 12 minute walk from the Spanish Arch.
