These workshops were created to compliment Super Paua Stories to bring high quality art to your school! Join Super Paua in storytelling, science, art, and multilingual adventures that encourage young people to question what they know and how they’ve come to know it; to surprise and delight them with their creativity and humour; and by making art, connect in a different way.
Make sure to check out Super Paua Stories first to prepare for the workshops!
Krys’s Passport to Poland - Listening Party!
Themes: Multilingual, Creativity, Storytelling
A listening party is where a theatre show meets a workshop; the excitement of listening to stories paired with the fun of making art together.
This listening party will focus on 'Krys’s Passport to Poland,' a bilingual story (mostly in English) from our Polish language and culture focused series of stories, Opowiadania Super Paua.
Together we will celebrate the languages spoken in the class, listen to the story, and using theatre and storytelling techniques imagine ourselves as multilingual journalists reporting on things that are important to us (things that are real, and things that might have a flavour of magic).
Getting Lost - Ag Dul Ar Strae
Themes/Téamaí: Multilingual, storytelling, creativity / Ilteangacha, scéalaíocht, cruthaitheacht
Preparation (optional): Listen to the Super Paua Story 'Lara Ar Strae' le Miriam Needham
In this bilingual workshop we’ll play with idioms and proverbs to create stories together, and to celebrate different languages (Irish, English and the other languages in your class!). We’ll use drama, images and conversation to create imaginative stories from unique poetic phrases in our native languages, chosen by the children. This workshop is based on 'Lara ar Strae' from Scéalta Super Paua, a bilingual podcast for children.
Sa cheardlann dátheangach seo, beidh muid ag imirt le náthanna cainte agus seanfhocail chun scéalta a chrothú le chéile agus teangacha éagsúla a cheiliúradh (an Ghaeilge, an Béarla agus na teangacha eile i do rang!). Bainfimid úsáid as drámaíocht, íomhanna, agus cómhrá chun scéalta samhlaíochta a chruthú ó na frásaí fileata uathúla inár dteangacha dhúchais, roghnaithe ag na páistí féin. Tá an ceardlann seo bunaithe ar Lara Ar Strae ó Scéalta Super Paua, podchraoladh dátheangach do pháistí.
Stargazing & Storytelling
Themes: Creativity, Art/Science, Astronomy, Storytelling
Materials: Pieces of paper, pencils/colouring pencils.
Preparation (optional): Listen to the Super Paua Story 'Moonstone' by Aoife Meagher.
Join us to explore astronomy and storytelling in this workshop inspired by the Super Paua Story 'Moonstone.' We will look at storytelling techniques and constellations to encourage children and young people to create their own stellar, stargazing-inspired stories.
Super Paua is an Irish artist-led collective that makes work for young people in a variety of languages, places, and forms. Humour, social relevance, and respect define our work. Super Paua wants to give you things you didn’t think you’d like, but which you find beautiful and necessary once we’ve given them to you. They want to surprise you with the wickedness of your sense of humour, the extent of your empathy, and your bravery in the face of risk. They use public arts projects to tell exciting and empowering stories and to nurture human potential. Their super powers are laughter and solidarity, patience and flexibility, and their focus of wellness in the midst of a world that is not well.
