Meet The Orchestra

Meet the colourful families of the Orchestra - sing with the strings, wiggle to the wind, boogie to the brass, and stomp your feet to the timpani beat!

Galway 2020 and Music Generation Galway County present 'Meet the Orchestra'.

'Meet The Orchestra' is an informal concert specially designed with families and children in mind. It will be engaging, informative and most importantly, lots of fun!

Conductor, James Cavanagh, and the enthusiastic members of Symphonic Waves Youth Orchestra invite spectators to learn about the instruments they play and hear the beautiful sounds come to life. Children are encouraged to join in. Entertaining and interactive, the concert will feature familiar favourites alongside some pieces you might not have heard before.

The Ballinasloe Town Band will open the 'Meet The Orchestra' event, featuring members of their Junior Band.

Symphonic Waves is funded by Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture and managed by Music Generation Galway County.

Symphonic Waves

Established in 2017, Symphonic Waves is a regional youth orchestra based in the west of Ireland. Inspired by the bid book process for the European Capital of Culture 2020 for Galway, the idea for the ensemble grew from an identified need to provide high level progression pathways and ensemble performance opportunities for advanced young musicians along the western seaboard. Symphonic Waves was conceived of by members of Galway Music Education Partnership (MEP) which included the directors of seven music schools and youth orchestras in Galway city and county in partnership with Galway County Council and Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board (GRETB)
