Removed

Adam is okay to share his story, really it's alright. It's okay that his life was turned upside down, and the social workers were nice, kinda, and the foster homes, well... and his baby brother Joe?

‘Removed’ is an affecting, shocking and funny insight into growing up in the care of the State. It is a hard-hitting account of the challenges faced by our young people and their capacity to build resilience and to continue to hope, sometimes despite all odds.

‘Removed’ is not based on one individual, but rather an amalgam of the many interviews gathered by Fionnuala Kennedy with the Voice Of Young People In Care, a group of young people with care experience who are campaigning for changes to the care system in Northern Ireland. Adam’s story captures the humour, compassion and honesty of a the people interviewed in the making of this play.

‘Removed’ has been developed through Prime Cut’s Participate and Innovate Programmes and is supported by Creative Europe as part of the EU Collective Plays Project.

Parent/carer discretion is advised. Contains very strong language and difficult topics.

“Powerful, heart breaking performance. It is an untold story that needs to be heard, representing the experience of children in care authentically and with truth.”
‘…a quiet, unsettling explosion of polyvocal expressionism.’ – Simon Fallaha
