Théâtre De La Guimbarde

The Théâtre de la Guimbarde creates shows that bring together the world of children and the world of adults. The theatre company is aimed at children, from early childhood to teenage years, and offers them a unique artistic moment which awakens emotions and raises questions.

Through theatre, La Guimbarde brings a balanced view of the world, a critical outlook on society and brings to the fore today’s « living together ». Relying on rich writing and several theatrical languages, it examines the human being, pinpoints questioning and contradictions. Children live in this world just like adults do. There is no reason to sweeten words. The theatre company chooses artists who explore unique theatrical forms, weave ties and constantly nurture the project.

La Guimbarde takes a curious and well-wishing look at the very young spectators. The theatre company was the initiator of the theatrical creation aimed at the very young (0 to 3 years old) in Belgium and still carries out today fascinating research work aimed at this specific audience. While interested in children growing up, the company also wishes through its creations to challenge those adults who accompany children in their artistic discoveries. It invites them to interweave emotions and questioning.

La Guimbarde’s creations have been travelling in Belgium and through the world since 1973.
