Baboró is delighted to announce that the artist selected for our 2024 Áras Éanna Residency is performing artist Bob Kelly. Later this year, Bob will spend two weeks developing his creative practice at the Áras Éanna Arts Centre on Inis Oírr.
Bob participated in Baboró's 'You, Fin and the Play Between' programme, in partnership with Graffiti Theatre and TYAI and facilitated by Australian playwright Finegan Kruckemeyer. As one of 10 selected participants, Bob attended virtual mentoring sessions and creative workshops with Fin over six months in 2021, developing his own writing for young audiences and workshopping with his peers. Bob was also one of the performers in Graffiti Theatre's The Sleep that Ceased to Settle, which was presented at Baboró in 2022.
This is Baboró's second year partnering with Áras Éanna to provide a residency opportunity for a performing artist or theatre maker based in Ireland with a demonstrated passion for creating work for children and young people. Artists interested in working as Gaeilge are prioritised for this opportunity as part of Baboró's drive to encourage artists to make work for children in the Irish language.

About Bob Kelly
Bob is an actor and theatremaker from the west of Ireland. A Lecoq graduate, he has received critical acclaim for his stage performances in Ireland and France. Most recently, he directed and co-wrote The Hare, described by the Sunday Independent as “profoundly disturbing, almost viciously violent, and absolutely terrifying.... a wild extravaganza.” The Independent also selected his one-man-show Tintown as a highlight of Irish theatre that year. He is an alumnus of ITI’s Six in the Attic programme. In addition to theatre training, Bob is a graduate of the ATU & FH Joanneum, Graz, studies that included Gender, Equality, Ethics and Psychology.
