Colmac Robotics Ltd. is an Irish Ed-tech startup in the field of robotics education. Founded in 2013 by Colmán Munnelly and Niall McCormick, the company aims to raise Ireland's profile as a world leader in robotics. During this year's festival, Niall and Colmán will create the perfect environment for children to be creative, innovative and inspired, while learning important skills in the areas of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, design and computer programming.

Explore the wonderful world of robotics with your family. The Family Drop In Zone gives children and their accompanying adults an opportunity to try out robotics and cutting edge technologies at a series of stations in the uber cool surroundings of The PorterShed.
Here is a little of what you can expect:
Sphere Challenge: (Age 6+)
Spheros are small, programmable robot balls. The aim of the challenge is to guide your Sphero through the maze in the shortest time! Choose your colour, place it at the start line and take control of the iPad. This challenge is not as easy as it may first seem though...
Robotics: (Age 8+)
Use LEGO EV3 robotics kits to learn the basic principles of robotics. These kits contain a programmable brick known as "the brain", motors and sensors. The main body of the robot is built using LEGO Technic components, meaning that large structures can be quickly assembled. What could you build? Well the possibilities are endless!
Littlebits: (Age 8+)
Have you ever wondered how phones work? Or your microwave, a computer or even a spaceship? LittleBits are small, colourful, modular circuit pieces that let you build electronic machines in minutes!

This is cutting edge technology that will place children at the forefront of digital education, not just in Ireland, but across the world. By eliminating soldering and the potential for short circuits, children can learn about complex circuits very easily.

Learn how to design and build your very own robot using LEGO EV3 robotics kits! These kits are perfect for teaching the basic principles of robotics, as well as the more complex aspects. They contain a programmable brick known as "the brain", motors and sensors. The main body of the robot is built using LEGO Technic components, meaning that large structures can be quickly assembled. What could you build? Well the possibilities are endless! Why not build a search & rescue robot that can climb up and over steep slopes? Or perhaps a sumo wrestling robot and compete against your friends?
PARKING & GETTING TO THE PORTERSHED
Location: The PorterShed is located at the rear of the Train Station (Ceannt Station), Eyre Square, Galway. Facing the Meyrick Hotel on Eyre Square, there is an road to the right of the hotel that brings you into the car park behind Ceannt Station. The PorterShed is located at the right back corner of this car park.
Parking: Daily rate at Ceannt Station Car Park is €6.
Walking: The PorterShed is approximately 15 minutes walk from The Town Hall Theatre.
