Join the Baboró Children's Panel!

Deadline 31 May 2024

Children's Panel behind the scenes at Baboró 2023

Do you know a child who would like to join the Baboró Children's Panel?

Help us put children's voices at the heart of Baboró!

Baboró is looking for children who will be starting 4th class in September 2024 to join our Children’s Panel to ensure their voices are included in our planning and decision making.

The Baboró Children's Panel is a platform for young people in Galway city and county to feel welcome, heard, represented and supported in their creativity. The panel meets once a month to take part in fun creative workshops. They also spend a day attending shows and events at our October festival, experiencing Baboró 'behind-the-scenes'.

To apply, complete this Google form with your child: https://forms.gle/RJj6DBnKPeCM...

Who is eligible to apply?

All children who meet the following criteria are welcome to apply:

  • Must be entering 4th class in September 2024
  • Must live in Galway city or county
  • Must be available to attend monthly Saturday activities in Galway city from September 2024 to June 2025

How can my child apply?

Please complete this Google form with your child by Friday 31 May.

Applications should be filled out by a parent or guardian with the child present. We will ask for basic contact details that should take no more than 5 minutes to complete. The most important part of the application is a creative response from the child to the prompt "Show us something creative that you have seen or done that you found exciting."

The response can be a drawing, painting, short piece of writing or even a video. The child's artwork should be uploaded by an adult.

An application form should be filled out for each child applying.

If you have any questions about applying or taking part in the Children’s Panel, please feel free to email Children's Panel facilitator Maisie Lee on admin[@]baboro.ie. You can also RSVP here to join us for an information session on Zoom on Thursday 9 May at 6pm.

When will I find out if the application was successful?

All applicants will be contacted in late June. There are 10 vacant places on the Panel at this time.

After their first year on the panel, children will be given the option to remain on the panel for a second year, until June 2026.

What is the time commitment involved?

Children's Panel creative workshops take place once a month, on Saturday afternoons in Galway city. Workshops take place from September until June.

In October, the Panel will spend a day attending the Baboró festival together. This year's Baboró festival will take place Friday 11 - Sunday 20 October 2024.

We're here to help

In line with Baboró’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, we actively seek voices that represent the Ireland we live in today. It is important to Baboró that this process is easy and accessible for all children and their families. If you are unable to access the form or would like to arrange a printed copy of the application, please contact Children's Panel facilitator Maisie Lee on admin[@]baboro.ie.

If you are able to submit the form but have trouble uploading a file, photos or videos of children's artwork may be emailed separately to admin[@]baboro.ie.

A message from last year's Children's Panel

In this video, the 2022-2023 Children's Panel welcome other young people to Baboró and let them know what to expect from a visit to the festival.

As well as starring in the video, the Children's Panel played an active role in developing the concept, storyboard and script.

Baboró are committed to a child-centred approach to our work with children and young people. We undertake to provide a safe environment and experience, where the welfare of the child/young person is paramount.

Baboró International Arts Festival for Children is Ireland’s flagship arts festival dedicated to children and families.

Baboró is a registered charity which works year- round to bring meaningful arts experiences to children in our community and to support artists making work for young audiences.

Our annual international festival dedicated to children is the beating heart of what we do – it’s what we work towards all year. To complement the festival, we support and nurture artists and creatives in Ireland to make excellent and innovative work for our young audiences. And we continue to reach out into our community in an effort to break down barriers to participation, so that everyone can feel that they belong at Baboró – that they are both seen and heard.

The 2024 Baboró festival will take place from Friday 11 - Sunday 20 October in Galway.
