Baboró International Arts Festival for Children is Ireland’s flagship international arts festival devoted exclusively to children and families. In 2018, it celebrates 22 years of presenting a multidisciplinary arts festival to thousands of children in Ireland from its Galway base. As a charity, Baboró works tirelessly in order to strive to reach new audiences and see that all children in the West and beyond enjoy equal access to quality cultural and creative arts experiences, to deliver a diverse creative programme from Ireland and around the world at its annual one-week festival in Galway and to support artists and educators in their endeavours to inspire children to engage with the world through their experience of the creative arts. Baboró delivers these key objectives by engaging in an exciting portfolio of projects throughout the year that develops partnerships, increases knowledge, creates resources and ultimately deepens the offering of its annual Festival.

Job Purpose
The Communications Coordinator is key to the realisation of Baboró’s ambitions and is a vital member of a small year-round team. Reporting to the Executive Artistic Director (EAD), they will take responsibility for Baboró’s external and internal communications, including promoting the annual Baboró Festival, its year-round work, communicating Baboró’s mission and developing the organisation’s profile and brand. The role also incorporates supporting the Baboró’s operations by maintaining office systems and managing effective and efficient internal communications. This is a dynamic role which offers excellent opportunities for the successful candidate to develop their own unique skill-set and areas of interest.

Duties & Responsibilities

External Communications

  • Lead in the development, implementation and regular review of Baboró’s Communications and Audience Development Strategy, as part of Baboró’s Strategic Plan, ensuring Baboró communicates effectively with its various audiences and stakeholders
  • Responsible for the organisation’s marketing and communications function
  • Manage marketing budget, build relationships with suppliers and negotiate best possible deals
  • Manage and develop Baboró’s website and digital communication platforms to ensure efficient and effective communication with audience and stakeholders year-round
  • Work with EAD to develop annual festival identity and marketing materials and campaigns on time and within budget – print & design, advertising, online campaigns, etc.
  • Manage marketing sponsorship deals, build local and national relationships, negotiate best possible sponsorship agreements, and fulfil sponsor’s criteria
  • Co-ordinate festival marketing team: Digital marketing consultant, publicist, photographer, videographer, interns
  • Nurture and develop Baboró’s long-standing links and relationships with schools and educators in the city, county and beyond to ensure that school children and students can access our events
  • Work with the EAD and Schools Box Office to communicate effectively with early years, primary, secondary and special needs schools and 3rd level institutes
  • Assist with the co-ordination of Festival events such as Programme Launch, Festival Opening, Friends and Sponsor’s Events, etc.
  • Collect and analyse relevant data to assess effectiveness of communications strategy, and deliver report on same
  • Responsibility for ensuring Baboró’s compliance with GDPR regulation across the organisation

Internal Communications

  • Responsible for effective and efficient internal communication
  • Maintain office efficiency by reviewing and improving office systems
  • Maintain and develop Baboró’s databases, archives and filing systems, in line with GDPR regulation
  • Responsible for Baboró Board administration
  • Assist the Festival team with preparation and reporting of funding, sponsorship and award applications
  • Prepare management and Board reports as required
  • Deliver presentations to management, Board and other groups where necessary

Carry out other duties as may be required from time to time.

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Excellent verbal, written, oral and digital communication skills
  • Strong visual communication skills with an eye for detail
  • A track record in initiating strong and effective marketing/promotional campaigns
  • Strong organisation and planning skills with the ability to work under pressure in a challenging environment while managing workload and competing priorities
  • Proven ability in collecting and analysing data and in producing management reports
  • Experienced in managing budgets
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work effectively in a team and build and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to effectively manage staff
  • Proven ability to manage processes, develop standards and promote process improvement
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Dynamic and resourceful self-starter
  • At least 3 years’ relevant work experience at management level

Desirable Criteria

  • 3rd level qualification relevant to marketing/communications
  • Knowledge of Baboró’s mission and remit
  • Knowledge of the arts sector
  • Understanding of Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA)
  • Experience of working in a festival environment

Additional Details

Contract Information

Salary: €27,000 to €30,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Full-time, fixed term contract: July 2018 – June 2022 (11 month probation period)
