A host of fun for the very young || Baboró announces an incredible Small size Day lineup for Sunday 28th January

Baboró International Arts Festival for Children presents Small size Day 2018 on Sunday the 28th of January. Small size Days are a global initiative to celebrate creativity for Early Years. Theses sell-out events have become a much-anticipated part of the programme of events for little ones here in Galway.

This year Baboró is pleased to present three unique experiences for young children in the O’Donoghue Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance, NUI Galway. Baboró is proud to collaborate with Branar Téatar de Pháistí, Bricí Spraoi and artist Ceara Conway to deliver this event.

A unique chance to preview this charming and playful non-verbal show that explores what happens when things change.  Catch uoo, mee, weee! at a discounted rate before it hits the stage this February for the widely anticipated Wide Eyes event here in Galway.

This humorous tale of finding your feet and having the courage to be different features original music by Micheal Chang, is directed by Lali Morris and Marc Mac Lochlainn, and is Baboró International Arts Festival for Children’s very first production, which they are co-producing with Branar Téatar do Pháistí.

Time: 1.00pm & 3.00pm (additional preview available on Wednesday 31st of January at 3pm, enquire at box office)

Imagination Playground | Ages 3 - 6

Imagination Playground is child-centred and encourages self-expression through free play. The playground is comprised of large blue foam bricks in a variety of shapes and sizes. We invite you to come and imagine, invent, collaborate and play. Build your own playground – a space rocket, a tunnel, a den, a ship – the possibilities are endless. Go wild, let your imagination be your guide, and invent your own games in your space. There are no rules here!

Sky Phonics | All Ages

Ticket holders can also take time to explore Sky Phonics, an interactive audio installation on the Rights of the Child by visual artist Ceara Conway, commissioned by Méitheal na mBeag.

These floating "sound bites" from interviews with young children from Galway city and county, cultural policy makers, artists, members of the travelling community, members of the Direct Provision community and many more are presented in an interactive form. Members of the public are invited to "pull" a sound bite from the air and to plug it in to one of the several stereo speakers installed in the space.

‘Small size Days’ are presented by (Artistic International Association) Small size, performing arts for early years’. It is supported by the European Commission’s Creative Europe project, which supports artistic productions for children aged 0 to 6, and the cultural rights of young children to access the Creative Arts.
