A Children's Guide to Anarchy

Dumbworld and Red Note Ensemble

Northern Ireland and Scotland

Fr 10 Oct - Su 19 Oct

This radical child led work comprises seven musical animated videos that explore key elements of anarchical thinking such as autonomy, kindness and human connectivity from a child’s perspective. The short videos are bright and bold with original scores by Red Note Ensemble and songs written and performed by the children of Oakwood Primary School, Glasgow.

Composer Brian Irvine and director John McIlduff were inspired by the 1931 publication La Anarquia Explicada a Los Niños, an instructional manual for children published during the Spanish Civil War, explaining the ideas and practices of anarchy.

The work was developed over a year-long process of co-creation involving pupils, teachers, artists, and musicians.

Please note that the exhibition space includes an opportunity for audiences to creatively respond to the work.

The superpower of children is their ability to remind us of the core values of humanity - care, humour and joy…

Established in 2009, by composer Brian Irvine and writer/director John McIlduff, Dumbworld is an artist-led, multi-disciplinary production company that works in opera, animation, orchestral oratorio, arts installation and virtual reality.
