Baboró Programme for Grown-Ups

Baboró International Arts Festival for Children has designed a programme especially for adults to run during this year’s festival from October 14-20.

Are you a parent who would like to develop ideas to help you and your children experience the joy of creating art together at home?

Are you a teacher who would like to learn some tricks of the trade on how to foster an environment of imagination in the classroom?

Talks

Artist Talk | Jennifer Cunningham
Monday 14 October | 18.00 | Galway Arts Centre

Jennifer has created 'Between Worlds', a new body of work for this year's festival. Jennifer works with paint, printmaking, film, digital media and drawing.

Producing Work for Children & Young People
Tuesday 15 October | 16.30 | O'Donoghue Centre, NUI Galway

Join established experts to discuss the unique challenges and rewards of creating, funding and touring work for nationally and internationally.

Making Work With and For Neuro-Diverse Children
Thursday 17 October | 17.00 | Nun's Island Theatre

Barrowland Ballet's artistic director, Natasha Gilmore, along with the cast of 'Playful Tiger' who are performing as part of Baboró, will share insights into the development and creative process of the company's emerging body of dance-theatre work for neuro-diverse young audiences. They will be joined by Phillida Eves, a local artist creating work for this audience in Galway.

Making Professional Work with Young Professionals | Shane O'Reilly

In this seminar, Shane O'Reilly will share findings, experiences and insights into the process, form and artistic opportunities that come with making professional work with young performers, following an international research period.

Children read pictures. Can you read without words too? Get the most from picture books with your child by creating intimacy, fun and imaginative play - for both of you! Especially for parents and carers with literacy or language difficulties.

Through the Microscope: A STEAM Workshop for Teachers and Parents Wednesday 16 October | 19.00 | Galway Arts Centre

In his hands-on explorative workshop, teachers will be shown by Lindsay Deely, Toddlelou Creativity Lab, practical, fun and effective ways to teach children about the power of the microscope in their classroom.

Junk Ensemble Workshop for Theatre and Dance Professionals

Megan and Jessica Kennedy have a reputation for creating innovative dance work. Dance and theatre artists are invited to join them for a practical workshop in devising and performance.

Properbook Bootcamp | Writing Workshop with Dave Rudden and Patricia Forde
Saturday 19 October | 10.00 | O'Donoghue Centre, NUI Galway

Baboró, in partnership with Children's Books Ireland, presents a day-long intensive workshop for aspiring writers. Successful authors Patricia Forde and Dave Rudden will use their experience, candour and humour to guide and challenge budding or early career authors of children's books.
