Calling artists to apply for a two-week residency on the smallest of the Aran Islands, the stunning Inis Oírr.
Áras Éanna Arts Centre, in partnership with Baboró International Arts Festival for Children, are offering their studio space to one performing artist from the 2 - 16 December 2025.
During the residency, you will receive:
- Open, self-structured time for you own creative practice;
- A stipend of €2,000 for the full two-week duration;
- Travel covered to and from the island;
- A private studio apartment;
- Access to the Arts Centre’s work studio and theatre spaces.
Artists interested in working as Gaeilge will be prioritised as part of Baboró's drive to encourage artists to make work for children in the Irish language.
Please note: Unfortunately the studio is not accessible. There are 15 steps leading up to the only entrance. We recognise this limits who can apply and apologise we can not better accommodate everyone at this time.
The studio is spacious, with two large windows that look out upon a gorgeous view of the island. The sleeping area is tucked into a cosy alcove and the kitchen and bathroom are attached to the main space. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is also a washing machine for your laundry. Other artists-in-residence will be dwelling in the main house during your stay, cultivating a community of creatives.

Baboró strives to ensure that all children in Ireland see themselves and their stories reflected in the creative arts. We strongly encourage artists from currently underrepresented backgrounds to apply for this opportunity and particularly welcome creatives working as Gaeilge and/or bilingually.
To be eligible, you must:
- Have a minimum of three years experience as a professional performing artist and/or theatre maker. This can include directing and choreographing as well as performing;
- Demonstrate a passion and/or strong interest in creating work for children and young people;
- Be based on the island of Ireland;
- Be available for the full two weeks from 2 - 16 December;
- Be over 18 years of age and not a full-time student;
- (Desired but not mandatory) work as Gaeilge.
Unfortunately the studio is not accessible. There are 15 steps leading up to the studio and apartment space. While this remains a significant barrier we cannot currently eliminate, we want to minimise any other barriers you may face in applying for or participating in this opportunity. We offer some access supports, pending limited resources, and want to work with you to ensure this opportunity is attainable. Access supports can include, but are not limited to, additional funds for child care or a companion or accessibility costs such as taxis. - An artistic CV (max 3 pages);
- A portfolio of artistic work (3 examples) Note: please keep video clips to 5 minutes or less;
- A response to the following prompts in either written (2 pages maximum), audio or video recording (3 minutes maximum) format:
- How would you describe your artistic practice? What is your style of working?
- How would you like to use your time over the two weeks of the residency? You will not be held to this plan, and we recognise the residency is many months away yet, but we’d like to get a sense of what you hope to gain from the residency and what value you see in the opportunity.
- Optional: What excites you about working as Gaeilge?
- We also invite you to fill out this quick and optional form to help us better understand the communities of artists that we are reaching.
