Enrolment is now open for Baboró's Continuous Professional Development (CPD) course Drama Tools for the Classroom, from Monday 1st to Friday 5th of July at the O’Donoghue Centre, NUI Galway. Book your place here.
The week-long course is designed for primary school teachers but is also open to educators, therapists, artists and facilitators. It is for those who value the art of communication, the development of empathy and the value of co-operation, and wish to use drama and the creative arts to effectively engage children in teaching a range of topics.
The course will cover all the required teaching methodologies such as Active Learning; Problem Solving; Collaborative Learning and Discussion and Use of Environment, while also developing skills that can be used in a multitude of settings with many subject areas. Participants will then be guided through the processes of using drama as a methodology that supports the Using, Understanding and Communicating as per the New Primary Language curriculum.
The essence of Drama Tools for the Classroom is an exploration of thoughts and feelings leading to a deep understanding of a subject matter; critical thinking and creativity help students develop a broader understanding of the world and contribute to a child’s sensory, emotional, intellectual and creative enrichment.
Following last year’s course, one participant said, “I feel I am coming away with new perspectives of drama, a deeper understanding of its importance in the classroom and I have a wealth of new ideas to use going forward.”
Irene O’Meara brings over twenty years’ experience as a teacher, dramatist and facilitator to the course and is renowned for her expertise in her field. As a facilitator, she creates an environment where personal and professional development go hand-in-hand with participation and fun.
Course cost: €70.00.
This is an EPV Department of Skills and Education approved course and participants will receive a certificate of completion.
