It’s a Tiny Mutiny!

In autumn of 2022, the children of Galway took a stand. Proclaiming the need for a child-led cultural space in the West of Ireland, two groups of children in Rosmuc and Galway city raised their voices and shared their creativity with their communities through rebellious songs, colourful banners, and digital projections.

Both youth ensembles created their visions and proclamations in response to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The children worked with artists Jojo Hynes, Midie Corcoran, Róisín Seoige, Atmos Collective and Laura Angell to create two site specific outdoor events which took place during the 26th annual Baboró festival in October 2022.

During the first weekend of the festival, the young artists in Rosmuc presented their live protest performance, which included music and digital projection, outside Ionad Cultúrtha an Phiarsaigh at nightfall.

A week later, the Galway city ensemble performed at the Spanish Arch made their voices heard as the River Corrib rushed by. Their digital projections of the cultural spaces they would like to see in Galway were projected onto the Galway City Museum.
